Admissions

The school ethos is that children should be encouraged to reach their full potential – academically, physically and socially – in a happy atmosphere. Good manners and consideration for others are expected and valued. European and global awareness is encouraged. The School aims to take an individual and equitable approach to all applicants, and our ambition is to provide a robust and challenging academic education for girls and boys. The school aims to provide a full and rounded education which helps to develop pupils intellectually, morally, spiritually and in terms of their personal and social development. The school is non-denominational and, within its student body, has a tradition of religious, ethnic and social diversity which it seeks to preserve.

The school is a non-assessing independent fee-paying school. School admission is at 4+, into Reception, and places are offered on a non-assessed basis and in order of date of registration. The school will notify the parents of an available place or the child will be put on a waiting list in registered order. The principal point of admission is at 4+. On occasion pupils are admitted in other year groups as vacancies arise. This is subject to children attending a morning at Merlin and at the Head’s discretion.

We strongly encourage parents to visit Merlin for a tour of the school. Please click here to book a school tour. A registration form can be downloaded below or please do contact the office for a copy.

Siblings will be offered a firm place as long as they are registered by 1st March, 18 months prior to entry to one of our Reception classes. Any registrations accepted after that date will be given priority on our Waiting List.

The school offers internal support to children of ability who prove to have mild specific learning difficulties. It is essential that the school is made fully aware of any pre-assessed needs. If the school feels that any additional help is required for the child then the parents will be asked to pay for additional one-to-one support teaching.

The school is co-educational and aims to maintain a balance between boys and girls. The nature of our timetable ensures that all the children are organised into a variety of classes for many subjects, so the children will continue to mix and develop their friendships. The team considers many factors when deciding class lists to ensure a successful and happy school career for all.

Merlin is not part of the Government Nursery Scheme and therefore we are unable to offset nursery grants against the fees.
